Chevron Corporation has made a $55,000 gift to San José State's Bay Area Earth Science Institute. The funding will be used during the 2009-2010 academic year to provide teachers with weekend workshops and field trips, Web-based instruction, and online materials that deal with the connection between human activity and climate change, freshwater supplies and quality, and energy resources. Housed within the College of Science, BAESI is the region's only program entirely devoted to earth science education for teachers of grades 4-12. The gift was facilitated by Department of Geology Professors Richard Sedlock and Ellen Metzger.
