James D. Houston, SJSU alumnus and author of many books including Farewell to Manzanar, which chronicled Japanese American internment during World War II, died Thursday, April 16. He was 75. Houston also served as the Lurie Distinguished Professor in Creative Writing at San José State, and his wife Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston is an alumna. The couple met while students here, and co-authored Farewell to Manzanar based on her family's experiences.
