Scott Myers-Lipton, associate professor of sociology, has published "Rebuild America: Solving the Economic Crisis Through Civic Works." The book analyzes the history of U.S. public works to understand the most effective way to organize a modern U.S. civic works project.

The College of Science brought eight area high school students to campus this past summer with the Johnson & Johnson Bridge to Employment program. The program provides young scientists with the opportunity to interact and develop their interests through internships in academic and industrial settings. The experience culminated in early August with an academic symposium at San José State featuring student work.

The SJSU Studies in American Language intensive English language program has received Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. San José State is the fourth university in the state to receive this distinction, the most rigorous and respected worldwide. Instructor Kimberly Chavis headed the two-year process. Since it was founded in 1975, SAL has helped thousands of international students improve their English skills.
