Nearly 12,000 people visited the new joint university/city library when it opened its doors to the public on Fri., Aug. 1. A total of 30,863 materials were checked out, which includes the 17 public library branches.
Typically the university averages between five to six thousand patrons on a given day during the height of a semester. Dean Patricia Breivik reports that "King Library" has been approved as the preferred shortened name for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, and the acronym KING will be used on maps, directories, etc. For the new Web site and information on the grand opening celebration for the public on Sat., Aug. 16.
