In commemoration of the International Year of Astronomy, giant never-before-seen multi-wavelength images of deep space will be unveiled at noon Tuesday, November 17, in the Fourth Street Lobby of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. San José State Professor of Physics and Astronomy Michael Kaufman will be on hand to explain the science behind the images.

"NASA's Great Observatories have greatly expanded our understanding of the galaxy. While most people are familiar with the images from the Hubble Space Telescope, they may be less familiar with the capabilities of the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Spitzer (infrared) Space Telescope. By combining images from all three, we get a beautiful view of the cosmos that is also rich in scientific value," he said.
