Former SJSU President Don W. Kassing is the first of five people featured in a KLIV radio series profiling this past decade's most influential Santa Clara County residents. KLIV notes Kassing presided over San José State's 150th anniversary, record fundraising, and the renewal of its football program. He also served as SJSU's point man on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and Campus Village residential towers, two projects that transformed campus and downtown San José. Kassing supporters interviewed by KLIV include San José Mayor Chuck Reed, San José Councilmember Sam Liccardo and SJSU alumnus and major donor Don Lucas. Kassing's 15-year tenure at SJSU included four years as president. He retired in 2008.
