San José State University would like to extend an invitation to all Nisei who were students here but were unable to graduate due to internment during World War II to return to campus to receive an honorary diploma during our university-wide commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 29. We are extending the same invitation to families of Nisei who are unable to attend for any reason. IBM Senior Vice President Jon Iwata is this year's commencement speaker.

We would like to provide Nisei the opportunity to hear their names called, and to walk across the stage to receive their diplomas as they would have back in the 1940s had they been able to complete their studies. SJSU would also like to recognize the remarkable contributions of these individuals and their generation to our university and community.

Our staff has assembled a list of 150 students lost to Japanese American internment during World War II. However, contact information for these students dates to the same time period. Nearly all of these individuals have moved, and many married and changed their names. Consequently, we need your help locating our former students.

Because commencement is just a few months away, we would like to make contact now with as many Nisei and families as possible. Our commencement ceremony is accessible. We will provide any needed assistance with mobility in and around Spartan Stadium.

We will also help Nisei and families who have moved elsewhere to attend commencement at the California State University campus closest to their homes.

If you or someone you know may be eligible, please call the SJSU Office of the President at 408-924-1101.
