Terrific, super relevant books remain at the forefront of SJSU Campus Reading Program events. "The Road," the Cormac McCarthy Pulitzer Prize-winning novel following a father and son's apocalyptic struggle to survive, will be the subject of a panel discussion at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Engineering 285. Assistant Professor of English Nick Taylor and Director of Sustainability Katherine Cushing will explore the book and movie's literary and environmental aspects.

Also, the Campus Reading Program selection for fall 2010 is the Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. "In his first book for young adults, bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist who leaves his school on the Spokane Indian Reservation to attend an all-white high school. This heartbreaking, funny, and beautifully written tale, coupled with poignant drawings that reflect the character's art, is based on the author's own experiences and chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he seems destined to live," said the author's website.
