Luis Valdez, the world renowned playwright and SJSU alumnus, will speak at the graduation convocation for the Department of Television, Radio, Film and Theatre at 2 p.m Friday, May 28, in the University Theatre. Also, a plaque honoring his pivotal role in Chicano/Latino theatre will also be dedicated this spring at SJSU's Hal Todd Theatre.
Valdez's work remains popular with audiences here and abroad. His landmark play "Zoot Suit" opened to a sold-out house Thursday, April 29, at the newly remodeled Teatro Juan Ruiz de Alarcon at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Later this week, Valdez will travel to Cuba to receive El Premio Gallo de La Habana from Casa de las Americas in recognition of his work with El Teatro Campesino and Latino theatre in the United States. ??
