Chemistry Professor Bradley Stone recently hosted and participated in the Computational Chemistry for Chemistry Educators Workshop at SJSU, which drew 13 participants from around the country. Developed by the Shodor Education Foundation and funded by the National Science Foundation, the professors learned a wide range of state-of-the-art software for performing computations of interest to chemists.

Physics Professor Alejandro L. Garcia gave two invited seminars at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory: one for the Computational Materials Science and Chemistry Summer Institute; the other in the Institute for Terascale Simulation.

Three social studies professors participated in the 2003 Association of Asian American Studies conference in San Francisco. Curtiss Takeda Rooks chaired and served as discussant for two panels. Associate Professor Wendy Ng participated in a roundtable discussion on "Exploring the Dimensions of Teaching Asian American Studies: Teaching, Scholarship, and Activism in the Academy." Sociology chair Hien Duc Do served as the out-going president of AAAS and played a key role in bringing the national conference to the Bay Area this year. In addition, Dawn Lee, activities coordinator for the MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center, presented a paper on "Approaches to Cultural Studies in Asian American Studies" as part of a panel discussion.
