Redbud in bloom.
Date: 03/15/2004
Spring has arrived early at the campus botany garden, created and maintained by the Department of Biological Sciences. On 4,000 square feet adjacent to Duncan Hall, you will find a California native plant garden. Shrubs such as Lemonade Berry and Coffeeberry form the "backbone" of the garden. A large Oregon Ash dominates the canopy providing a perching and nesting place for birds such as the goldfinch and the yellow-rumped warbler. Humingbirds visit the flowers of the Pitcher Sage, Sticky Monkeyflower and Penstemon. See www2.sjsu.edu/depts/Biology/facilities/botanicalgarden.html.
