Despite the state budget crisis, a majority of California voters strongly believe youth violence prevention and safety programs should have a high priority for funding, says a report on a statewide survey conducted by SJSU’s Survey and Policy Research Institute. The project, Youth, Violence and Safety, funded by a grant from the California Wellness Foundation, indicates that the governor and legislature should continue funding youth safety programs at current levels, even if it means less money for other programs such as schools, health services, transportation and public safety.
