This week, SJSU’s Center for Service Learning will host a two-day community service fair, "Get Connected 2004," for faculty and students. "Service learning gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience in the local community while learning the importance of their service in the classroom," says Debra David, director of the center. "We hope this event will encourage students and faculty to connect with community organizations that match their interests or course curriculum." The organizations participating in this event meet a wide range of service needs from education, immigration, and health and human services to technology training, business and environmental concerns, adds David. The event will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., along the El Paseo de Cesar Chavez. See http://www.sjsu.edu/csl/get_connected/index.htm.
