Master of Science, Family Nurse Practitioner Admissions

Eligibility:

  • Applicant has current, unrestricted California Registered Nursing (RN) license
  • Applicant has 1-2 years of prior nursing experience at the time of application
  • Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN)

Prerequisites

A grade point average of 3.0 (B) is required in the last 60 units of the undergraduate program coursework. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 will be evaluated on an individual basis and may be admitted with a conditional status.

Potential applicants need to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Review Advising Slides before completing application
  • Complete application on Cal State Apply
  • Search under EXTENDED STUDIES for FNP program

Applicants are required to submit the following with the Cal State application:

  1. Personal Statement covering the following questions:
    1. What are your goals/passions?
    2. Why are you applying to the FNP program?
    3. What are knowledge, skills, and/or experience are you bringing to the program (i.e. speak multiple languages, specialized experience, etc.)
  2. Please create a short 3-5 minute video describing your nursing and any other related experiences. Post the video on YouTube and provide the public link in your application. (You do not need to make your YouTube video searchable, just provide the public link)
  3. Two letters of reference
  • For assistance with completing the Cal State Application, contact their help desk directly at 857-304-2087.
  • There is a non-refundable application processing fee.
  • Submit transcripts as directed (see Have Applied and Next Steps for more information)

Application Deadline:

OPEN: DEADLINE APRIL 1ST, 2024

Applications for Fall 2024 admission are accepted October 1, 2023 through the deadline of April 1st, 2024.

Timeline of Admissions Notification 

Students will be notified of an admission decision four to six weeks after the April 1 deadline.

Once students are formally accepted into the program, additional health documents will be required (titers, background check, drug testing, malpractice insurance) administered through third party document tracker.

  • Applicant has at least one (1) year of prior nursing experience is suggested at the time of application
  • Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) or
  • Applicant has a Baccaulaureate degree in another field plus Associate degree in Nursing (ADN)*

*Applicants with baccalaureate degrees in another field plus ADN must complete conditional coursework before starting NE coursework, if admitted.
