Bio

Dr. Désia Bacon is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Research and Experiemental Psychology program at San José State University, specializing in developmental psychology. Dr. Bacon teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels about research methods and developmental psychology, including the undergraduate courses Psychology of Childhood and Psychology of Aging. 

Broadly, Dr. Bacon is interested in how people use the varied information in their environment to help them learn. In the Pediatric Development and Language (PeDaL) Lab, Dr. Bacon's primary research centers on the intersection of language and social development, with specific focus on how young children utilize perceptual and social cues in their environment to facilitate their language learning. Dr. Bacon's research perspective is rooted in understanding how the diversity of people's lives impacts their development, utilizing a variety of research methodologies that meet individuals and families where they are at. Current work in the PeDaL Lab spans development from young children to adulthood.
