EDUCATION: 
Ph.D. University of California, Santa Cruz, 2011

BACKGROUND:
Sara Benson received her Ph.D. in Politics and Feminist Studies from the University of California-Santa Cruz. Before coming to San Jose State, she held a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of History at UCLA. Her work focuses on the relationship between prisons and democracy. She teaches courses on feminist critical race studies, punishment and the law, and theories of justice.
