Students admitted in Fall 2020 should check their eligibility status with the Undergraduate Advising & Success Center (UASC) at undergraduate-advising@sjsu.edu before registration. The free intersession course can be taken during any winter or summer term, starting Winter Session 2021. Students must maintain continuing student status at San José State. Once a free intersession course has been used, students will not be eligible for a future free intersession course. 

Transfer students who were admitted and completed their Fall 2020 term had two years (through Summer 2022) to use their free intersession course. 

Freshmen who were admitted and completed their Fall 2020 term have four years (through Summer 2024) to use their free intersession course. 

To enroll in your free course this Winter:

Step One: Review the list of available courses in the Winter 2023 catalog. 

Step Two: Identify your top three course choices.  

Step Three: All eligible students will receive an invitation email via MySJSU in September with instructions on how to request a free course. Students must complete and submit a Free Course: Winter 2023 form by Friday, September 30 for priority registration.

Seat availability is limited for each course, and will be assigned on a first request first served basis. Once you submit the form, there is nothing else you need to do for enrollment. Undergraduate Advising & Success Center (UASC) will handle enrollment for all free intersession courses. Enrollment in your top choice(s) is not guaranteed. Check your schedule in MySJSU on October 12 to verify enrollment in one of your requested courses.

Please note: If (for any reason) the Undergraduate Advising & Success Center (UASC) is not able to enroll a student in their top three choices, students can still register for that class as a general student through MySJSU during the advance registration period. All tuition fees will apply in this case. 

Instruction for additional classes:

For any additional class students want to add, they may do so themselves through MySJSU. Registration for additional classes will be the same as regular students enrolling in Winter Session. Please refer to the registration webpage for general students.
