Transfer Orientation

Welcome!

Here at SJSU, each college has a Student Success Center that helps their students navigate through general education, graduation requirements, policy and procedures, academic notice, and reinstatement. We are the College of Social Sciences Student Success Center (CoSS SSC), and we provide GE Advising. SJSU also offers major-specific advising, and major advisors will assist students with their major related coursework.

We highly recommend that transfer students meet with both their major advisor and Success Center advisor to ensure they navigate through their academics as efficiently as possible. You can learn more about the differences in advising here.

Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET)

Spartan Experience for Transfers (SET) is the mandatory orientation experience that all incoming transfer students are required to attend, which includes being present for the entire duration of the program. During orientation, you will learn about various campus resources and register for your courses.

Preparing for the College of Social Sciences SET

• Before

  • Make sure all official transcripts from every college you attended are sent to SJSU in a timely manner.

    Please note that it can take some time for your transcripts to post to your student portal, so if your transcripts are not posted to your MySJSU account by your scheduled SET date, please have your unofficial transcripts available during course registration.

• During

  • During orientation, you will enroll in classes for your major, SJSU Studies (upper division GEs), and university electives. Each will be discussed in-depth during SET orientation.

• After
  • After orientation and registering for courses, please make sure you check your SJSU email and MySJSU messages often for important notices leading up to the semester. Also bookmark the most current calendar for important dates and deadlines.
