San Jose State's Community Partner Award recognizes those whose investments in the university create opportunities for our students and faculty members to positively impact our campus, our region and the world.
The 2018 recipient of the Community Partner Award is Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, San Jose State’s partner in the Just in Time program. Starting in 2017, Second Harvest began providing fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries to SJSU students at monthly food pantry events on campus.
Second Harvest has partnered with the university to open the Spartan Food Pantry, SJSU’s first permanent food pantry, which will offer free food to eligible students. Second Harvest’s generosity makes it possible for San Jose State students in need to access free and healthy food. By eliminating student food insecurity, SJSU transforms the experience of its students, allowing them to focus on their studies—and setting them up for success.
The 2017 event celebrated President Mary Papazian’s inauguration, 2017 Tower Award recipient Luis Valdez, ’64 English, ’88 Honorary Doctorate, and Community Partner Award recipient Joe Pinto, president of Cisco’s Technical Services Group.
Hosted by the Tower Foundation of San Jose State University.
