Bio

Dr. Susan Chen is a public health nutrition researcher focused in exploring the intersection between community food insecurity and sustainable food systems practices. Her research agenda is to work along side communities in the Bay Area and identify, develop, and implement initiatives that promote sustainability and nutrition, and are inclusive of all community members. She uses mixed-methods (qualitative and quantitative) approaches to answer her research questions. 

Dr. Chen's prior research focused on assessing food waste and attitudes and perceptions toward food waste among individuals with low-income, food recovery organizations, and youth populations. 

Research areas of interest: sustainability, food systems, community nutrition, underrepresented populations, food waste, program planning and evaluation
