Writing Skills Test (WST)

The Writing Skills Test, or WST, is no longer used as a 100W placement exam.  The new writing requirement is called the UDW-DSP and is completed through MySJSU on your own time.  For questions about the UDW-DSP, contact the Undergraduate Education office.

Special Circumstances

• I took the in-person WST prior to March 2020.

  • Your score for the in-person WST is available in your MySJSU student portal. Log in to MySJSU. In the Academics area of your Student Center, navigate to the CSU Campus Page.

    If you scored:
    6 or below: register for ENGL 100A or LLA 100A

    7-10: register for the appropriate 100W for your major.

    11-12: you may be eligible to waive 100W. Only certain majors allow 100W waivers. Contact your major advisor or the student success center for your college.

• I am transferring to another CSU campus and took the in-person WST at SJSU prior to March 2020.

  • E-mail the Testing Office and request to have an official score report sent to your new campus. 

• I did take the WST-DSP recently and did not get a response
