Message from the Chair

Dr. Raymond Yee

Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Department at San Jose State University! We are located in the
heart of Silicon Valley. Our Department offers bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering and a robotics minor. We are proud to be one of the major engineering workforce providers for many companies in Silicon Valley. The Department was established in 1958 and currently has about 1,000 students enrolled. Our graduates work in various major engineering firms in Silicon Valley, including NASA, Lockheed Martin, Tesla, and Applied Materials, to name a few. Our curriculum focuses on learning core engineering principles & concepts through hands-on activities. We also feature cutting-edge research in various fields related to mechanical engineering. Many of our graduates stay in the Bay Area with local employers and contribute to the region's economic growth. Some of our graduates also establish their own firms, primarily due to the ME department's training in creativity, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving skills. A fair number of graduates continue their educations in M.S. and Ph.D. programs at schools nationwide.
Our BSME program is top-rated, and we receive many applications for admission every year. Our student body is also very diverse. We have dedicated faculty and staff who are knowledgeable and eager to help students learn and reach the next level.
This website will give you a lot of information related to our programs. After browsing our website, please do not hesitate to contact the Department with any questions.

Sincerely,

Raymond K. Yee, Ph.D., P.E.
