MS Quantum Technology Admission

Applying to the Program

The application process includes two steps.

The first step requires you to submit an online University application using the Cal State Apply portal (https://www.calstate.edu/apply). The second step requires submission of an application to the MS Quantum Technology (MSQT) program via email to quantum@sjsu.edu.

The final deadline for submitting all application materials is April 1, 2024.

Step 1: The University Application

You will need to apply to the University to obtain approval for program admission. Minimum requirements for admission to San José State University are outlined in the Graduate Admissions “Want to Apply” pages. The application to the University is submitted electronically through CAL State Apply. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is NOT required for admission to the University (through CAL State Apply) or to the MS Quantum Technology Program.

Please note: The University graduate application is separate from the application you send to the program. Timelines for the University Application can be found at the Graduate Admissions website. (Please note that only Graduate Admissions can receive official transcripts, the MSQT program is not able to forward official transcripts to the Graduate Admissions office.)

Step 2: The Program Application

You will also need to apply to the M.S. Quantum Technology program to obtain admission and approval to enroll in courses. 

To apply to the program, please provide the following materials by email to quantum@sjsu.edu: 

  • A resume or curriculum vitae
  • A 1-2 page statement of purpose that addresses (1) how your previous coursework, research, or employment prepares you for our program; and (2) how our program fits into your career interests and goals 
  • One signed letter of recommendation from an academic or employment reference* 

For full consideration, applicants must submit all of the above materials before April 1, 2024. All materials must be emailed to the MS Quantum Technology program mailbox: quantum@sjsu.edu. Applicants are welcome to ask questions about the required application materials by emailing quantum@sjsu.edu.

*Letters of recommendation should be emailed directly to quantum@sjsu.edu  by letter writers with the subject header: ‘MSQT Recommendation Letter for [Applicant Last Name]'
