Housing

Housing Information for All Students

It is important to note that on study abroad and away programs, housing accommodations may vary from what you are used to here in California. For example, you may have a twin-sized bed instead of a queen-sized bed, or you may not have a dishwasher or clothes dryer* (you also may have all of these depending on where you are going!) Every program has different housing accommodation options and amenities, and this is related to their cultural norms, so think of this as one of your first steps to learning more about the culture you are about to live in! Before you depart for your adventure, specific information about housing on your program will be provided to you, so you will know exactly where you’ll be living and what you will need. If you have any questions, the Study Abroad and Away office is here to support you!

*Pro tip - if you encounter a sign or washing machine where the information is provided in a different language, you can take a picture with Google Translate, and it can translate the information into English for you.

Partner University Programs

If you are studying on a semester or year long partner university program, you may be living in on-campus or off-campus housing. Once you are accepted by your host university, they will contact you with next steps to take to apply for on-campus housing or to secure off-campus housing before the start of your program.

If you are studying on a Summer School Abroad program, you are required to reside in the lodging that is arranged by the program. If you wish to arrive prior to, or stay after your program dates, you are responsible for making your own lodging arrangements.

Please note: students on the JAMK Summer School Abroad program will be arranging and making payments for housing on their own (this will not be arranged/paid for by the Study Abroad and Away office).
