Desired Outcome 1

Lead as an inspiring public campus that enriches San José’s economic, cultural, natural, and intellectual vibrancy through sustainable practices.

    • Expanded programming to include in-person events and participation in communities that directly promote and incentivize engagement

    • Increase relationships with the downtown community groups and expanded collaboration opportunities

    • Collaborative programs offering SJSU-exclusive discounts at restaurants, shops and businesses in downtown San Jose. 

    • A co-branded initiative between SJSU and Downtown San Jose with a vibrant, engaged community is visible and active during weeks of welcome.

Build broad, sustained connections and relationships with students, alumni, and other other campus and community stakeholders for lifelong engagement.

    • Increased number of opportunities for alumni to volunteer, mentor, advise and donate

    • Promotion of outstanding alumni, including through Honorary Degrees and Alumni awards events (eg Spartans of Significance event)

• Speed City legacy center

  • Speed City legacy center - Rebuilding a culture of Caring, Trust and Inclusivity. Create a concept and a feasible plan to implement the development of a competitive NCAA Track to be located at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and the Speed City Legacy Center.

Desired Outcome 3

Support excellence in athletics in the Mountain West and other conferences in which we play and the arts to enrich the community in which we live.

    Year-over-year growth of at least 10% in attendance at sporting events on campus, 10% in ticket revenue, 15% in corporate sponsorship dollars, and 10% in athletics dollars raised from philanthropic efforts.  The results will be measured by comparing the prior academic year results to the current year.

Exemplify an ethic of service to San José State and the broader community that brings distinction to the university.

  • Connectivity and engagement between SJSU and the region. Establish baseline metrics and track:

    • Engagement of community leaders and alumni through SJSU volunteer boards and councils.

    • SJSU faculty and staff service on community boards and participation as speakers, volunteers, and resources to help address the greatest needs within our community.

    • SJSU student service learning or volunteer service hours.

    • Town and Gown relationships – supporting and being represented at community agencies, non-profits, chambers, professional organizations, etc.

    • Student involvement throughout the community, including through internships, work experience, student teaching, and student research/projects, and opportunities for employers to hire students.

Desired Outcome 5

Launch and complete a comprehensive fundraising campaign to generate resources that support institutional priorities, including student success and campus development, while also growing and stewarding longer-term philanthropic opportunities.

• A comprehensive campaign for giving opportunities

  • A comprehensive campaign that provides impactful and transformative giving opportunities (i.e. supporting college/unit priorities) for donors to make strategic investments across the university and have a greater impact on programs, projects, and priorities that align with their philanthropic goals. Establish metrics to track:

    • Attainment of the comprehensive campaign fundraising goal 

    • Increased donor engagement pipeline to secure private philanthropy

    • Building and growing a culture of philanthropy by engaging the campus in fundraising activities such as Day of Giving, and other stewardship activities.
