Liberal Studies Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP)

The Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation, Integrated Teacher Education Program (LSTP-ITEP), combines the study of academic subjects aligned to California standards for the K-8curriculum with professional preparation courses and field experiences leading to a preliminary Multiple Subject Credential (MSC). Successful completion of this ITEP leads to both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.

The Liberal Studies, Integrated Teacher Education Program, is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) for waiver of the subject matter examination (CSET for Multiple Subjects) required to earn a teaching credential.

  • Demonstrate the ability to describe and compare the roles, impacts and ethical implications of ideas, texts, social movements, contemporary situations, and creations of the human imagination.

  • Demonstrate skill in written and verbal communication, including argumentation.

  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, select, use and cite information sources appropriately.

• PLO #5

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge in subjects taught in K-8 schools.

• PLO #6

  • Demonstrate understanding of how to engage and support learning for all K-8 students by creating lesson plans that use a variety of instructional strategies, resources and technologies to meet students’ diverse learning needs.

• PLO #7

  • Demonstrate understanding of how to create and maintain effective learning environments through reflection and through the development of lesson that promote student learning, reflect diversity and encourage constructive interactions among students.

• PLO #8

  • Demonstrate understanding of how to plan instruction and assess student learning by creating lesson plans that use formative and summative assessment data to plan, differentiate and modify instruction.
