Other Academic Accommodations

For students who have disabilities with episodic/unpredictable acute episodes which may require them to miss classes or assignment deadlines, the AEC will prescribe accommodations allowing a reasonable amount of flexibility. These accommodations support curriculum requirements; meaning, fundamental course requirements and learning outcomes will not be altered. Therefore, these accommodations could affect and be implemented differently for each course. The guides below are tools to facilitate the communication between faculty and students

• If I am registered with the AEC, will I receive priority registration (advance registration)?
  • Priority registration received at a previous institution(s) does not determine eligibility at SJSU; priority registration is determined on a case by case basis.
• Does AEC loan wheelchairs or other mobility aids? 
  • AEC does not provide mobility aids with the exception of scooters. Scooters are limited and provided on a first come first served basis to registered students on a daily basis. Scooters must be picked up and returned to AEC. Scooters are not intended to offer long term support; students needing longer/permanent mobility aids are encouraged to discuss their needs with their treating professional. Students interested in borrowing a scooter must contact AEC. 
• What support is available for disabilities that are episodic/unpredictable?

• Does AEC provide tutors to assist students with disabilities?
  • The AEC does not provide tutoring for students with disabilities. The University offers tutoring to all students through campus resources such as Peer Connections and the Writing Center. AEC students utilizing these campus resources are provided consideration for additional support time.
