AEC Faculty Events

As a part of our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, the AEC is hosting a series of sessions throughout the Fall semester. Each meeting will:

1. Have a different focus intended to provide clarification the shared responsibility of administrating accommodations &
2. Deepen your understanding and support for student who receive academic accommodations.

Faculty Fridays

•  August 30: 11AM to 12pm - Accommodations 101 (Zoom) 

  • Discussion: ADA Overview, AEC Registration Overview, Faculty Responsibility, Confidentially, Communicating with Student with disabilities, Setting Boundaries, “Can AEC help me or is it a conduct issue” & “I received a Faculty Notification Letter – Now What?”

• September 6: 11AM to 12pm - Emergency Preparedness (Zoom) 

  • Discussion: What does the notice of Emergency Evacuation in the Faculty Notification Letter Mean? What is the Faculty responsibility? What support does SJSU provide? What are Evacutrack Chairs?

• September 13: 11AM to 12pm - Episodic/Cyclical & Unpredictable Disabilities (Zoom)

  • Discussion: In depth look at the accommodations of Assignment Extension & Attendance Adjustment

  • Discussion: Why is this accommodation provided? What notetaking options are provided by AEC? How does notetaking impact class? Is there any other aid I can offer? 

• September 27: (11AM-12PM) Testing Accommodations (Zoom) with In-Person (4-4:30) afternoon visit to AEC Testing Center (Coffee & Dessert provided) 

  • Discussion: How is responsible for scheduling exams? How do student schedule exams? Are students required to test with AEC? What if I believe a testing accommodation provides the student with unfair advantage? 
     
    Optional: “Where do my students test: AEC Testing Open House” from 4-4:30 (In-Person)

• October 11: 11AM to 12PM – Supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing Student (Zoom)

  • Discussion: How do I interact with service providers? What can I provide the student to help them get the most out of the class?

• October 18: 11AM to 12 PM Mid semester check in Q&A with AEC (Zoom)

  • Discussion: What issues have come up in Fall 2024, What can you do to aid AEC as we begin to prepare for Finals

  • Discussion: End of semester questions, Finals: When should my student test? My student requested to take the final on a different date, what does an early notification letter mean?
