Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) Specialization
A Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) specialization is a supplemental authorization
that can be completed by individuals who are satisfying the requirements for the Pupil
Personnel Services (PPS) K-12 School Counseling Credential.
The program of study for this optional authorization aligns with the preparation for
our K-
12 school counseling specialization. In order to meet the preparation standards outlined
by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, relevant content about issues
connected to child welfare and attendance is embedded into all of our school counseling
specialization, practicum, and fieldwork courses. Students who decide to pursue this
authorization will need to dedicate a minimum of 150 hours of supervised fieldwork
to
child welfare and attendance. This includes a minimum of 90 hours of fieldwork
providing direct counseling to students in a school setting and a minimum of 30 hours
in
interdisciplinary experiences outside of the field of education.
Additional information about this authorization, program standards, and performance
expectations can be found in the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing:
