New Honors Program

Proposal Process

Submit the *New Certificate/Credential/Honors/Minor (instructions linked) approval process in Modern Campus Curriculum (formerly Curriculog).  Attach a catalog copy cleary indicating program requirements.

Two types of Honors Programs exist and any proposals must be in compliance with University Policy S17-13 [pdf] "Undergraduate Student Honors at SJSU".

• Department Major Honors Program

  • Departmental major honors are awarded to students who successfully complete an approved program with their major. Each department that elects to have a major honors program should customize the program to its individual discipline. View the 2019-2020 Audit of Department Major Honors Programs.

• Honors in a Special Course Sequence (SCS) 

  • Honors in a Special Course Sequence (SCS) are awarded to students who successfully complete an approved SCS honors program. SCSs are unique course sequences outside of a major program, which provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective on topics of broad interest. By their nature, SCSs require curricular oversight and subject expertise across departments and/or colleges. SCSs are subject to the same unit minima as minors.
