Design Internship

DSGN 127 Internship

Our Design Department believes that, in addition to understanding the concepts and theories of design, students also need to have practical knowledge of design. For that reason, all our programs have an emphasis on gaining professional experience through internships: pre-professional, intensive learning experiences that offer practical work exposure related to a student’s field of study or career interest. The internships are designed to be time-limited and focused on connecting knowledge learned in the classroom with practical business skills—providing an opportunity to put theory into practice, and expose students to industry.

For our professional degrees in Graphic Design (BFA), Interior Design (BFA), and Industrial Design (IS), students are required to complete an internship as part of their degree requirements. For the Animation & Illustration BFA program, completion of an internship is highly recommended.

All internships for credit must have departmental approval (of placement and studio qualification) and are administered according to department guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Degree students only (BFA ANI, BFA GD, BS ID, and BFA IT majors)
  • Completion of 3 units of DSIT 104, DSGD 106, or DSID 123, with GPA in major of at least 3.0.
