The SJSU Lurie College of Education Credential Services office serves the diverse educational needs of graduate students, staff and faculty in an effort to prepare teachers, counselors, administrators and other education professionals as they complete their credential programs. Credential Checklists and Steps to Apply
All credential applicants must complete the following steps:
- Complete the Information Coversheet [pdf] - Download the form and save a copy. Type in your information and print.
- Pay the $25 application processing fee at commerce.cashnet.com/SJSUCRD. Print your receipt and submit it with your application packet.
- Download and print the appropriate credential checklist and any additional forms if required. See checklists below. Submit all required documents listed on the checklist. Terms and Definitions of Requirements [pdf]
- For Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist Credential Candidates completing the prelminary credential program in Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021, or Fall 2021: CTC COVID-19 Flexibility Deadlines Chart.
- CTC Credential Fee Waiver [pdf] - Credential candidates may be eligible for a fee waiver towards an initial credential application submitted beginning 7/1/2021 through 6/30/2022.

Notes
- You must have an overall 3.0 GPA in your Credential coursework, and may not be disqualified from SJSU. Each course must be completed with a Pass, CR, or C or better grade.
- Your coursework must have been completed within the last 7 years.
- Submit a complete application packet including all official transcripts. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant.
- Applications are processed in the order received.
- Processing time is 4 weeks from the time you file your application with our office.
- Applications may be mailed to us for processing.
Approved Subject Matter Preparation Programs
San Jose State University offers the following approved Subject Matter Preparation Programs. These undergraduate degree programs waive students from the CSET exams required for the Teacher Credential Programs. To be eligible for a waiver, individuals must complete one of the majors below and receive their degree at SJSU. If you are eligible and are seeking an evaluation for subject matter competency, please contact our office for further information at credentials@sjsu.edu or 408-924-3541. We do not currently offer evaluations to individuals who did not receive their degrees at SJSU.
