About Us

Housed within SJSU's College of Information, Data and Society, the Silicon Valley Big Data and Cybersecurity Center (BDCC) is a recognized entity dedicated to advancing program development in teaching and research in cybersecurity and big data. The center addresses the significant public and private interests in these critical fields, which are vital to the security, commerce and information flow in the United States. Through partnerships with Silicon Valley companies, the BDCC creates a robust nexus of knowledge, driving innovation and leadership in big data and cybersecurity.

The Center’s ongoing big data and cybersecurity initiatives include:

  • Developing the next generation of cybersecurity and big data professionals.  
  • Developing grant proposals to advance research and industry collaboration.
  • Promoting and expanding existing degree programs.
  • Providing cutting-edge professional training.
  • Increasing interest in cybersecurity and big data in K-12 through outreach programs. 

The Center is co-led by Tonia San Nicolas-Rocca, Associate Professor for the School of Information and Simon Shim, Department Chair and Professor for the Department of Applied Data Science. Together, they bring visionary leadership and expertise to the Center's mission.
