February 25, 2025 - Dr. Sandra Hirsh [pdf] will open the North American Virtual Reference Online Conference: Applying the Trends of Tomorrow, Today with her keynote, "The Next Generation of Libraries: Looking Ahead to Library 2035". As we navigate the rapidly changing landscape of information and technology, the future of libraries is continually evolving. What will libraries look like by 2035? Drawing on key insights from library leaders in the recently published Library 2035: Imagining the Next Generation of Libraries (March 2024), this talk explores the lessons learned over the past decade, identifies key themes from the book, and forecasts the opportunities, strengths, and challenges that lie ahead. The conference is open to everyone and is free to attend.
Wellness Strategies: Dealing with Anxiety and Incivility During a Time of Uncertainty

RESAW (The European Research Infrastructure for the Study of Archived Web Materials) unites leading national web archives, research institutions, and the Internet Archive to advance cross-border web history and archival research.

Ethical Considerations in AI Research: An Examination of Elements in Current Research Projects
December 2, 2024 - Dr. Guannan Liu from the Department of Applied Data Science presented about the ethical considerations in AI research. The presentation explored these ethical considerations by examining three AI-driven research projects currently in progress, in human posture recognition, indoor localization, and human-machine interfaces. Critical ethical dimensions to be explored include data privacy, fairness, and algorithmic transparency. Key challenges include addressing the ethical implications of data collection and processing, mitigating bias in decision-making, and ensuring transparency to build trust in AI systems. This discussion emphasizes the importance of aligning technological innovation with ethical accountability to foster responsible research practices. October 27, 2024 - Simon Shim, Professor and Chair of the Department of Applied Data Science, presented a session on Building and Evaluation of AI Assistants with RAG and Finetuning at the AI Summit and participated in a panel discussion on AI in Education at the AI Summit.
