Summer Research Internships

In Activity 5, one of the programs run by David Parent is the Summer Research Internship with Gavilan Community College. This project provides funding for community college students to do research, receive mentorship, and adapt new skills with SJSU Faculty over the summer. It is modeled after the current collaboration between CSU Los Angeles and Growth Sector.


Program Setup:

  • Students will spend 8-10 weeks at SJSU working up to:
    • 30 hours/per week
      • Research Project
    • 8 hours/per week
      • Coursera Certificates
  • Students will be paired with an SJSU Faculty Member based on:
    • Major of Study
    • Personal Interest 
      • In the topic, the Faculty Member has chosen.
  • In the 8 weeks, the SJSU Faculty Member will mentor the student in:
    • Working on a Future Career Plan 
    • How to transfer to a 4-year University
    • Reseach Project 
  • Once the 8 weeks have passed, the student will have a final poster board of their project and present their work to their fellow peers, SJSU Faculty, and Gavilan Faculty Members.
