About Professor Rosa Vega:
In 2022, Rosa A. Vega was appointed as the Coroner for the Sacramento County Coroner's Office. Previously she worked at the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office for 17 years, 6 of those as the Chief ME-C Investigator. Rosa trained the death investigators, and partners such as police cadets, CSI Officers, and newly assigned Homicide Detectives. She has personally investigated thousands of deaths including mass shootings, airplane accidents, child deaths, and homicides. Rosa is an ANDE Rapid DNA operator for the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office; one of the few in the state. She received her Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration with a concentration in Forensic Science Administration from Loyola University New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice with a minor in Physical Anthropology from San Jose State University. Rosa is a Diplomate Registered Death Investigator through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. She is an affiliate member of the National Association of Medical Examiners, the California State Coroner’s Association, International Association of Coroner’s and Medical Examiner’s and the California Homicide Investigators Association. Rosa is dedicated and passionate about the medicolegal field; areas of interest include John/Jane Doe cold cases, child fatalities, drug fatalities, motor vehicle fatalities, and Forensic Anthropology.
