Associated Students Workplace Violence Prevention Program

The Associated Students Workplace Prevention Program aims to create a safe environment by effectively managing violent or potentially violent situations. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees.

Relevant Regulations and Legislation:

1. Cal/OSHA Workplace Violence for General Industry:
   1. Scope: Cal/OSHA requires employers in the general industry to establish and maintain a Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) as part of their Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
   2. Requirements: Employers must identify and evaluate workplace
      violence hazards, implement measures to correct these hazards, and
      provide training to employees on workplace violence prevention. This
      includes reporting procedures for incidents, regular reviews and updates of the program, and providing immediate support to employees affected by violence.
2. California Labor Code Section 6401.9:
   1. Overview: This section mandates that employers in certain industries
      develop a WVPP to protect employees from workplace violence.
   2. Key Points: Employers are required to:
      1. Develop procedures to address workplace violence risks.
      2. Train employees on how to recognize and respond to workplace
         violence.
      3. Implement reporting mechanisms for incidents of workplace
         violence.
      4. Review and update the WVPP regularly to ensure its effectiveness.
3. Senate Bill 553 (Cortese):
   1. Purpose: SB 553 aims to enhance workplace safety by addressing and
      mitigating workplace violence.
   2. Provisions: The bill includes:
      1. Requirements for employers to adopt comprehensive WVPPs.
