The Beckman Scholars Program at SJSU was funded beginning in 2026 by The Beckman Foundation. This program funds 2 Beckman Scholars each year for 3 years to work with one of the Mentors on a research project for 15 consecutive months (starting in June).

Scholar Application Process

To become a Beckman Scholar, a student must first connect with one of the eligible Mentors about research (a Mentor cannot have more than one Beckman Scholar in their lab during a single 3-year funding period). Then the prospective Scholar will work with their Mentor to develop a research project proposal to pursue during the 15-month research period and the Scholar-Mentor team will submit an application. A Mentor will be allowed to sponsor up to two applications per application period. Applications are due in late February and Scholar selection will be confirmed by the end of March.

The application form, as well as a detailed description of eligibility can be found at this link.
