Louise Ann (“Lou Ann”) Lyon is a Senior Research Associate at ETR in Silicon Valley, CA. Her research interest is in broadening participation in the software development workforce through both formal or traditional and informal or alternative pathways. Dr. Lyon holds a PhD in Learning Sciences with a graduate certificate in Feminist Studies from the University of Washington and a MS in Computer Science from California State University, Chico. Her work background includes seven years on the Computer Science faculty at the University of Washington, Tacoma campus—which included serving as Coordinator of the Non-Majors Curriculum—as well as six years as a Software Engineer working on high-end video effects products. Dr. Lyon brings her educational and work experience to her role as Principal Investigator on two NSF-funded projects—one on coding boot camps, university computer science programs, and alignment with workforce needs, and another investigating women teaching themselves to code on the Salesforce Software as a Service platform in the context of virtual, all-female coaching and learning groups.
