Oliver Hesse is Director for Lab Automation & Data Management at Bayer in Berkeley, Ca. He started his career in small biotech, building up and running high throughput screening systems for large molecules that generated large amounts of data and incorporated automated decision making. Since 2008 he is at Bayer and since 2011 at the Berkeley site. There he is developing and implementing strategies and directs projects with respect to lab automation, digitalization and data sciences for the biotech organization. Current major topics are the application of digital technologies to gain better process understanding (e.g. through digital twins, ML, AI) and the seamless integration from process development all the way to commercial manufacturing.
