New BS Computer Science + Geology Degree!

The Geology and Computer Science departments at SJSU are delighted to announce their new joint BS degree in Computer Science + Geology, one of the few such programs in the country. Students in this new interdisciplinary program will learn to apply computing methods to geoscience and environmental problems, thereby meeting the growing need for employees with skills such as managing, acquiring, and analyzing big data sets and running computer models. The decreasing costs of computing power are facilitating use of computing approaches to solve major geoscience problems, like those associated with earthquake prediction, geotechnical engineering, and landslides. Geoscience for Society Scholarship

Apply for the S-STEM scholarship and mentoring program for up to $15,000 annually in scholarship funding. The goals of the S-STEM Geo4Society program at San Jose State are to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates in two Geology BS degrees through financial aid and program activities and to develop student networks and career-readiness for entry into societally relevant geoscience jobs.

New MS Computational Geoscience Degree!

The Geology and Computer Science departments at SJSU are delighted to announce their new joint MS degree in Computational Geoscience! This is the only Computational Geoscience MS program in the CSU system. Students in this new interdisciplinary program will apply cutting-edge techniques, (e.g., AI, computer vision, and numerical modeling) to tackle fundamental problems in the geosciences, such as earthquake hazards and the effects of sea level rise. Applications will be reviewed this spring for admittance in the fall of 2026.
