Fulbright Core Programs for U.S. Scholars

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers approximately 500 teaching, research, or combination teaching/research awards in over 125 countries. Participation in the U.S. Scholar Program helps faculty further develop their research and teaching skills by collaborating with those in the same discipline in other countries. It also helps develop intercultural communication skills and sensitivity, which will better serve them in the classroom and outside. Participation in the program also enables the faculty to serve as global ambassadors for SJSU.

Fulbright Distinguished Chair Awards

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair Awards comprise approximately forty distinguished lecturing, distinguished research, and distinguished lecturing/research awards ranging from three to 12 months. Please go here for more details.

Fulbright Specialist Program

The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks. Please go here for more details.

Fulbright-Hays Program

The Fulbright-Hays Program awards grants to individual U.S. K-14 pre-teachers, teachers and administrators, pre-doctoral students and postdoctoral faculty, as well as to U.S. institutions and organizations. The Program supports research and training efforts overseas, which focus on non-Western foreign languages and area studies. The Fulbright-Hays Program is funded by a Congressional appropriation to the U.S. Department of Education. Group projects abroad are supported in this Program. Please go here for more details.

The International Education Administrators (IEA) seminars

The IEA seminars help U.S. international education professionals and senior higher education officials create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. Please go here for more details.

Fulbright Global Scholar Award

The Fulbright Global Scholar Award allows U.S. academics and professionals to engage in multi-country, trans-regional projects. As a truly worldwide award, U.S. scholars will be able to propose research or combined teaching/research activity in two to three countries with flexible schedule options; trips can be conducted within one academic year or spread over two consecutive years. Fulbright Postdoctoral and Early Career Awards

Fulbright’s postdoctoral and early career awards are open to U.S. scholars who have recently completed their doctoral degree – typically within the five previous years. Scholars are eligible to apply if they will complete the requirements for their doctoral degree by February 1 of the year following your application submission, unless otherwise specified in the award description. This award allows recent scholars to deepen their expertise, acquire new skills, work with additional resources’ and make connections with leading scholars in their fields. Fulbright Arctic Initiative

The Fulbright Arctic Initiative brings together a network of scholars, professionals, and applied researchers from the United States, Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark (including Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden for a series of three seminar meetings, and a Fulbright exchange experience to address key research and policy questions related to creating a secure and sustainable Arctic.
