Housing for International Students

San Jose State University offers many housing options for students, ranging from dormitories to apartment-style living and communal housing. See below for both on-campus and off-campus living arrangements.

Please note that first-time freshmen are required to live on-campus. Learn more about the freshman on-campus housing requirement. 

University Housing

Housing for freshmen, transfer and graduate students on the SJSU campus. Housing options range from dormitories to apartment-style living.

Off-Campus Housing

Finding housing in the Bay Area can be challenging. Be mindful when looking for a place to live off-campus - take steps to avoid scams and unsafe situations.  

Temporary Housing

If you plan to look for a place to live after your arrival in San Jose and need a place to stay, Airbnb is a popular site for temporary stays. You can also find a list of local hotels here.

Homestay

Get the full study abroad experience by living with an American family and immersing yourself in American culture. International Student Placements (ISP) is a full-service organization that places students in local residents’ homes.

International House

A large, comfortable home located near campus, the International House (I-House) is a residence for 70 U.S. and international students attending San José State. At I-House, residents find friends, study partners, and mentors in addition to opportunities for leadership, group activities, and travel.
