How to register?

Currently-enrolled (admitted) SJSU students or those who have been admitted for the current term are not eligible to enroll through Open University. Please visit our current student website for more information on how to register for a Winter Session class as an SJSU student.

Interest in Winter 2025? Please check back again in October 2024. 

Registration for the Winter Session begins two weeks after advance registration for matriculated SJSU students. Please watch our video playlist below for step-by-step registration instructions or take our interactive walk-through.

Registration for Open University students is not guaranteed. The enrollment limit for Winter Session is 4 units. 

Identify your student status

Choose from the student status below. Depending on your student status, registration instructions will vary. 

First Time Open University student

 
 
  • First-Time student w/ no SJSU ID (i.e. a student who attends another university or college)

    Get your account ready. Create MySJSU account via Quick Admit.

    Access Quick Admit (Not Available after Dec. 14th)

    After 24-72 hours, activate your MySJSU account and use the blue MySJSU button on one.sjsu.edu.

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, October 25. The first day of instruction is on Tuesday, January 2. Attend classes online or in person starting January 2. Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our FAQ in more detail. 

    Starting Wednesday, October 25, enroll in your class(es) via:

    • MySJSU. Add yourself to the class if you meet the pre-reqs and there is no waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.
    • DocuSign Open U registration form. Have your instructor add you to the waitlist if the class is full. Permission numbers are not necessary for form submissions.

    Must have GAPE office approval for 200+level classes. See our graduate student webpage for more information. 

    Secure your spot in class. Submit payment for fees by the posted deadline. For other important registration and payment deadlines, visit our calendar webpage.

  • First-Time student w/ an SJSU ID (i.e. a student who previously applied for admission or attended SJSU)

    Get your account ready. Log into MySJSU starting the first day of registration to the last day to add (1/4), and choose Winter 2024 to activate the term. Follow the instructions in our video tutorial. If you have issues accessing your student account, you can reset your password or contact the IT Help Desk at ithelpdesk@sjsu.edu. 

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, October 25. The first day of instruction is on Tuesday, January 2. Attend classes online or in person starting January 2. Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our FAQ in more detail.

  • First Time Open University student w/ SJSU ID and a recently disqualified SJSU student from Fall 2023

    As your first Open University semester, the Registrar Office will set up your account. Please refer to your DQ email from the Registrar Office for more details. You will have to wait until you have received an email from the Registrar Office before you can start enrolling in classes. 

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, October 25. The first day of instruction is on Tuesday, January 2. Attend classes online or in person starting January 2. Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our FAQ in more detail. 

    Starting Wednesday, October 25, enroll in your class(es) via:

  • Returning student w/ SJSU ID w/ a recent enrollment in a previous term (i.e. an OU student who enrolled in a Spring 2023 class)

    Get your account ready. Log into MySJSU starting the first day of instruction to the last day to add (1/4). Follow the instructions in our video tutorial. If you have issues accessing your student account, you can reset your password or contact the IT Help Desk at ithelpdesk@sjsu.edu.

  • Returning student w/ SJSU ID w/ no enrollment since Winter 2022 (i.e. an OU student who last enrolled in Spring 2017)

  • A post-baccalaureate/graduate student (i.e. a student who has already graduated from SJSU or another University or college)

    Post-baccalaureate/graduate students must submit a DocuSign Open University registration form. Your account and registration will be set up by the Registrar’s Office. 

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, October 25. The first day of instruction is on Tuesday, January 2. Attend classes online or in person starting January 2. Classes are listed as either a waitlist class or an instructor consent class. See our FAQ in more detail.

  • A high school student
    High school students interested in taking classes at SJSU during the winter and summer semesters will follow the registration instructions for first-time OU students (if this is their first time) and returning OU student (if they have attended OU previously before).
