How to register?

Currently-enrolled (admitted) SJSU students or those who have been admitted for the current term are not eligible to enroll through Open University. Please visit our current student website for more information on how to register for a Summer Session class as an SJSU student.

Registration for the Summer Session begins two weeks after advance registration for matriculated SJSU students. Please watch our video playlist below for step-by-step registration instructions or take our interactive walk-throughs.

Registration for Open University students is not guaranteed. The enrollment limit for Summer Session is 12 units. 

Identify your student status

Choose from the student status below. Depending on your student status, registration instructions will vary. 

First-Time Open University student

 
 
  • First-Time student w/ no SJSU ID (i.e. a student who attends another university or college)

    Get your account ready. Create MySJSU account via Quick Admit.

    Access Quick Admit (link will close Monday, June 10)

    After 24-48 hours, activate your MySJSU account and use the blue MySJSU button on one.sjsu.edu.

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, April 17. The first day of instruction is on Monday, June 3 for Session 1 and Monday, July 8 for Session 2. Attend classes online or in person starting June 3 for Session 1 and July 8 for Session 2. 

    Starting Wednesday, April 17, enroll in your class(es) in one of two ways:

    • MySJSU. Add yourself to the class if you meet the pre-reqs and there is no waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.
    • DocuSign Open U registration form. Have your instructor add you to the waitlist if the class is full. Permission numbers are not necessary for form submissions.


    Must have GAPE office approval for 200+ level classes.

  • First time OU student who previously applied or attended SJSU within a year

    Get your account ready. Log into MySJSU starting the first day of registration to the last day to add (5/29), and enroll in your classes. Follow the steps below.

    1. Log into MySJSU
    2. From the student center, on the navigation tab on the left hand side, select “Other items” at the bottom to expand the menu, then click "Open University Enrollment"
    3. Choose “Open University Undergraduate" as the Program to Enroll if you have not earned a degree before OR “Open University PostBaccalaureate" if you have earned a degree
    4. Select Spring 2024 as the term and click continue. A message “You have just been activated as an Open University student” will appear. Your account is now ready for registration. 


    If you are having problems with your MySJSU account, please contact the IT Help Desk at (408) 924-1530 or itservicedesk@sjsu.edu. Include your full name, SJSU ID and date of birth.

  • First-Time student w/ SJSU ID and a recently disqualified SJSU student from Spring 2024

    As your first Open University semester, the Registrar Office will set up your account. Please refer to your DQ email from the Registrar Office for more details. You will have to wait until you have receive an email from the Registrar Office before you can start enrolling in classes.

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, April 17. The first day of instruction is on Monday, June 3 for Session 1 and Monday, July 8 for Session 2. Attend classes online or in person starting June 3 for Session 1 and July 8 for Session 2. 

    Starting Wednesday, April 17, enroll in your class(es) in one of two ways:

    • MySJSU. Add yourself to the class if you meet the pre-reqs and there is no waitlist. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. If instructor consent is required, email the faculty for a permission number.

Returning Open University student

 
 
  • Returning student w/ SJSU ID w/ a recent enrollment in a previous term (i.e. an OU student who enrolled in a Spring 2024 class)

    Get your account ready. Log into MySJSU starting the first day of instruction to the last day to add (5/29) and enroll in your classes. Follow the steps below or the instructions in our video tutorial. 

    1. Log into MySJSU
    2. From the student center, on the navigation tab on the left hand side, select “Other items” at the bottom to expand the menu, then click "Open University Enrollment"

  • Returning student w/ SJSU ID and no enrollment since Summer 2023 (i.e. an OU student who last enrolled in Spring 2017)

  • A post-baccalaureate/graduate student (i.e. a student who has already graduated from SJSU or another University or college)

    Post-baccalaureate/graduate students must submit a DocuSign Open University registration form. Your account and registration will be set up by the Registrar’s Office. 

    Class registration begins on Wednesday, April 17. The first day of instruction for Session 1 starts on Monday, June 3 and Monday, July 8 for Session 2. Attend classes online or in person starting June 3 for Session 1 and July 8 for Session 2. 

    Starting Wednesday, April 17, enroll in your class(es) using the DocuSign Open U registration form. Have your instructor add you to the waitlist if the class is full. Permission numbers are not necessary for form submissions.

  • A high-school student
    High school students interested in taking classes at SJSU during the winter and summer semesters will follow the registration instructions for first-time OU students (if this is their first time) and returning OU student (if they have attended OU previously before).
