Industry-Sponsored Researcher Award
Craig B. Clements
Professor and Chair of Meteorology and Climate Science
College of Science
Director, Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center

Dr. Clements is recognized for his work on wildfire behavior and fire-atmosphere interactions. His research integrates observational data, advanced modeling, and industry collaboration to study fire weather and extreme fire dynamics, developing tools and forecasting systems that improve wildfire risk assessment, support operational decision-making, and enhance preparedness across sectors impacted by wildfire. As founder and director of the Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center (WIRC) at San José State University, a nationally recognized center, he leads interdisciplinary efforts that develop predictive and observational tools to better understand extreme fire behavior and address the growing wildfire crisis.
Reward and Recognition
The award recipient will receive a commemorative trophy, a cash award of $5,000, and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition. The award will be presented at the Celebration of Research on on Thursday, April 16, 2025. A profile of each recipient’s accomplishments will be announced to faculty and staff via email, and featured on the Research Foundation’s website and in the Research Foundation’s Annual Report. This information may also be publicized in university media.
