Starting Spring 2022, students may use a name other than their Primary (legal) Name on their diploma. Students must follow the guide to add a Diploma Name in their MySJSU [pdf] by the deadlines below, otherwise the Primary (legal) Name will be used.
- The Diploma Name will be used exclusively for diplomas.
- To update or correct the Primary (legal) Name, submit the Personal Information Change Request Online.
- For current graduates: Once a diploma is printed with the Diploma Name, additional diplomas can be obtained for a fee. See options to order your duplicate diploma.
- Spring graduates: June 1st
- Summer graduates: August 15th
- Fall graduates: January 5th
We award degrees on a rolling basis and typically print diplomas 2-3 weeks after posting your degree in MySJSU. We use standard USPS first class mail to ship diplomas, so we will not have tracking information. Typical diploma arrival dates are shown below:
Fall Graduates - late February
Spring Graduates - early July
Summer Graduates - late September
Electronic copies of diplomas are not available. However, you may request a degree verification letter in writing.
Be sure that your diploma/mailing address is current in MySJSU. Submit any address changes before the last day of the semester. We send diplomas by USPS first class mail, so we will not have any tracking information.
We will send diplomas to international addresses. However, the format of these addresses may vary. If you wish to use an international address, please update MySJSU and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to ensure we get your address in the correct format.
Many students with international addresses have us send their diploma to a trusted
friend with a stable local address. That friend would then forward the diploma to
the student using FedEx/UPS to get a tracking number.
A hold on your account may prevent us from sending your diploma. If you have not received your diploma within two months from the end of the semester, please email your evaluator. Students must report a missing diploma within 7 months of their commencement date:
July 31: Fall Graduates
Dec 31: Spring Graduates
Mar 31: Summer Graduates
Your diploma will include all majors, ONE minor, plus Latin and Department Honors
if applicable. Contact your evaluator with any questions you have about which minor will appear on your diploma.
Students with financial holds on their account will not receive their diploma. Check MySJSU to see if you have any holds. Inform your graduation evaluator when you have cleared your holds.
If you need to replace your diploma or would like additional copies, place your order from the appropriate link below. A $10 per diploma fee applies. Bachelor degree students have the option to submit a paper form and pay by check. Please allow 3-4 weeks processing time.
If you have both a master and bachelor degree from SJSU, you must submit a separate request for each degree.
