Timpany Center Swim Lesson Program Policies

  • Registration and Payment - All registration and payment must be completed prior to the first class. Payment implies agreement to all posted Terms and Conditions.
  • Class Changes and Cancellations - After registration and payment is complete changes to classes are subject to a $25 change fee.
  • Make-Up Policy - All make-up lessons must be approved by the Aquatics Supervisor, Brittany Manrubia. Once approved, make-up lessons will be scheduled for the designated make-up week, following each 6 week session, taking into account the following:

    • Pro-rated classes are not offered for missed lessons. We will do our best to work with you to meet your request for rescheduling missed lessons as a make-up lesson.
    • Per 6-week session, only one make-up lesson is provided if availability permits. Make-up lessons are not guaranteed; if a lesson is missed and we do not have an available class time, you will receive a credit. Refunds not available. All make-up lessons must be completed within the session in which the original lesson was missed.
    • If a student misses a class and notification is received 6 hours prior to the scheduled lesson, a credit will be issued or a make up lesson will be scheduled only after receipt of written request via email to timpany-swimlessons@sjsu.edu. Make up lessons may not be scheduled over the phone or in person unless a written request is submitted first.
    • No more than one make-up lesson will be scheduled per session for student absences.
  • Missed Class Policy - Consistent class attendance contributes to natural and fluid learning. The more classes the swimmer attends, the smoother the swimmer's progress will be.

  • Payment and enrollment is for an entire session, not individual classes in a “pay as you go” fashion. By signing up for the entire 6-week session you are reserving your spot and will recieve priority during registration for the following session.

  • Missed classes will not be rescheduled, although we do encourage you to attend class even if you arrive late. If late, student will be allowed in class for the remaining time but will not be permitted to swim once the class has finished. Refunds or credits for missed classes are not offered.

If a student begins classes after the session has already begun, the class cost will be prorated to the appropriate start date.

*Credits (no refunds) for medical situations supported with a written acknowledgement from a licensed medical practitioner will be reviewed from the date we receive the written acknowledgement. All requests must be made in writing by submitting an email to the Aquatics Manager. Medical consideration will only be given for the current session. No consideration will be given to classes missed for past sessions. Credits are issued only on a case-by-case basis and can only be approved by the Aquatics Manager. Any credits issued must be completed within 1 session from the date issued.

  • Open or “Free” Swim Before/ After Class - Please note that swim lesson participants are not permitted to enter/remain in the water before or after their swim lesson. A child may visit the pool during OPEN SWIM hours but must follow all age requirement rules and pay proper entry fees.  These fees are not included within the swim lesson registration cost. Inquire at the front desk about obtaining a drop-in pass, monthly pass, or monthly family membership if you or your child is interested in swimming during OPEN SWIM times.

  • Returned Checks & Declined Credit Cards - If a check is returned, or a credit card is declined, Timpany Center management will contact the individual on the account and notify them about the transaction. There will be a $25 processing fee for ALL returned checks and declined credit cards additional to the already due amount.  If a credit card is declined, or a check returned two consecutive sessions, Timpany Center management will ask that the session be paid with cash only.

  • Proper Swim Gear
    • All Children under the age of 4 or children/adults who have known (or the possibility of) fecal incontinence, must use an approved swim diaper/retainer before entering the pool.

      • Approved diapers/retainers for most ages can be purchased at the Timpany Center.  If you wish to purchase this item outside of the Timpany Center, please confirm with staff that you are purchasing an approved style.  Instructors and/or deck coordinators will confirm with parents/guardians/attendants of participants who fall in the above categories, that the proper swim diaper is being used.

    • Goggles are not required. However, they are strongly recommended.

    • Girls with hair medium or long hair must wear their hair pulled back.

  • Designated Parent Seating Area - To insure the quality of your child’s class, we ask parents/guardians to please remain in a designated area during all classes.  Approved areas include: the parent area near the patio doors on the pool deck, the blue benches placed around the pool deck, or the tables placed in the pool/front lobby area.  Please avoid interrupting the class while it is in session. If you have any questions, please wait until the end of class to approach the instructor. Violation of this policy may result in two warnings and dismissal from the pool area.  Parents must remain on site during the entire lesson.

  • Designated Student Waiting Area - Students are NOT allowed in the water without their instructor at anytime. Instructors will meet their students at the top of the steps of the pool area. Please be sure that students are on time and remain with your child until the instructor arrives to greet the children in their class.
