IBC Meetings and Deadlines

Meetings

The IBC currently meets on the 3rd Friday of the month except in the month July. If you are interested in attending an IBC meeting, please email biosafety@sjsu.edu to inquire. IBC meeting dates may be subject to change or cancellation without advance notice.

Deadlines

BUAs should be submitted by the 3rd Monday of the month to provide enough time for review in advance of the monthly meeting to biosafety@sjsu.edu. New applications are encouraged to submit earlier to enable pre-review completion screening by the IBC chair or intern.

Note that the IBC does not meet in July. Summer research projects are encouraged to submit during the Spring semester. 

Research

  • New Applications and Amendments - Submit any time. BUA must be approved before beginning work with biohazards. 
  • Renewals - Must be submitted at least 1 month before expiration date.

Summer/Fall Courses

  • March 15 - New course submissions
  • April 1 - Amendments or renewals of approved BUAs
  • First day of Summer Session One - Summer Session One courses with currently approved BUAs that only need to submit an amendment with updated instructional personnel. (Current instructional personnel should be listed on the main BUA and sign the signature page).
  • First day of Summer Session Two - Summer Session Two courses with currently approved BUAs that only need to submit an amendment with updated instructional personnel. (Current instructional personnel should be listed on the main BUA and sign the signature page).
  • First day of Fall Term - Fall courses with currently approved BUAs that only need to submit an amendment with updated instructional personnel. (Current instructional personnel should be listed on the main BUA and sign the signature page). 

Winter/Spring Courses

  • October 15 - New course submissions
  • November 1 - Amendments or renewals of approved BUAs
  • First day of Winter Session - Winter session courses with currently approved BUAs that only need to submit an amendment with updated instructional personnel. (Current instructional personnel should be listed on the main BUA and sign the signature page).
