Project Overview

Being in the heart of Silicon Valley, it’s important that our campus spaces reflect the technology-driven ethos of the region and that our students are prepared for tomorrow’s careers. President Teniente-Matson recently announced that we will be assessing and developing a plan to upgrade our classrooms and future-proof our technology. Our university will be creating a strategy roadmap based on the needs of our students, faculty, and staff in classrooms and all teaching and learning spaces across our campus. We must equip our university learning spaces to empower the education experiences of future pedagogies. To lay the groundwork for a broader transformation, this project will begin with a high-level 10-week assessment.

The Learning Space Upgrade and Academic Technology Strategy (LSUATS) initiative will begin with a 10-week project, launching in early September and concluding in November. Deloitte will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, stakeholders, and pedagogy experts to conduct a thorough current state assessment, develop a strategic vision and plan for the future, and create a multi-year implementation roadmap.

Phase 1: Current State Assessment

Conduct a thorough assessment of current state.

Activities: Gather and analyze data, facilitate interviews and feedback sessions, host campus-wide townhall, and collect survey results to amass a diverse set of views and perspectives across SJSU.

Outcomes: Create a comprehensive report focused on SJSU’s current challenges and gaps to inform the future state vision. Develop and socialize detailed findings and observations that effectively articulate the challenges and gaps in SJSU’s current academic technology footprint.

Phase 2: Future State Vision & Recommendations

Create future state vision and recommendations.

Activities: Socialize outputs of phase 1 and facilitate future state vision lab to understand needs and wants of stakeholders. Conduct peer benchmarking and case studies to inform development of recommendations.

Outcome: Define guiding principles and future state vision for academic technology. Provide case studies to inform vision. Guide vision with detailed recommendations to realize the desired future state.

Phase 3: Roadmap & Final Report

Develop multi-year roadmap and final report.

Activities: Prioritize and sequence initiatives with dependencies across a multi-year roadmap to achieve overall goals and opportunities for academic technology. Host campus-wide townhall to socialize outputs.

Outcome: Develop final report, inclusive of a multiyear roadmap and implementation plan, with cost estimates to achieve desired vision. Socialize PMO, OCM, and adoption best practices to support longterm deployment.
